💥 Big (Literally) Shorts News From The World Of YouTube

YouTube Shorts just got errrr long….

YouTube recently announced that Shorts can now be up to 3 minutes long (from Oct 15th), giving creators more room to work with.

Why the change?

Simple: It’s about flexibility and keeping up with how creators are evolving. Short-form content remains ridiculously popular, but squeezing everything into a minute can sometimes be a headache. This update bridges the gap between quick, snappy Shorts and the deeper, more engaging nature of longer videos.

For creators like you, this is big. It means you can now take viewers on a slightly longer journey without them scrolling away after 60 seconds. You can expand on ideas, dive deeper into tutorials, or even stretch out those storytelling moments without feeling rushed.

Plus, with more time, you can get creative with pacing, allowing for a more natural flow rather than trying to cram everything in.

Longer Shorts don’t just mean more time to speak—they mean more time to connect.

How this helps you as a creator:

1. More room for storytelling – No more cramming complex ideas into 60 seconds.

2. Improved audience engagement – More time to grab attention and keep it.

3. Creative freedom – Play with pacing and tone to keep things interesting.

4. Repurpose existing content – Easily cut longer videos into 3-minute Shorts.

5. Better brand building – Use the extra time to show more of your personality or expertise.

Pixelated Life Lessons YouTube Channel

This channel popped up on my feed this week, and subsequently blew my mind!

Brand new channel.

1 video.

8,000 subscribers.

The best part? It looks like my kid made this, with one eye shut.

No offence to the creator, this is actually a genius way of creating engaging content. I suspect they know far more than me about this little thing called YouTube.

(they also revive the legend of MS Paint as the number 1 graphic design tool)

Viewers are attracted by the simplicity and fun of the production, plus the scripting is really good.

There are a number of channels like this (usually involving stick men/women) and they always bring a smile to my face as they show exactly what’s possible when you “start making cool shit” (just like the video).

Check them out here, and then look again at those stats and ask yourself, why haven’t you started that channel yet?

▶️ Being the Content: Why You Should Make It About You

"Being the content" is about more than just pressing record and talking at the camera. It’s about embracing the fact that you are the center of your channel. Your personality, quirks, and opinions are what keep people coming back. Sure, the topic matters, but you are the reason they subscribe.

It’s tempting to hide behind tutorials, trends, or research, but at the end of the day, people connect with creators, not just content.

The more you put yourself into the videos—the mistakes, the humour, the realness—the more relatable you become. Think of it like hanging out with a friend rather than watching a lecture. That’s why creators who are authentically themselves tend to build stronger communities.

When you're the content, your channel becomes flexible. Want to pivot topics? Your audience will follow because they’re invested in you. Don’t be afraid to inject your story, your struggles, and your wins into the mix. It’s not just about being a creator, it’s about being your kind of creator.

So, remember: people can get information anywhere, but they can only get you from your channel.
